
Laurens de Man (’s-Hertogenbosch, 1993) is a versatile and enterprising keyboardist, active as organist, pianist. In 2024, he became the first organist ever to receive the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, the highest distinction for classical musicians in the Netherlands.
He studied piano, organ, and harpsichord at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with David Kuyken, Jacques van Oortmerssen, and Johan Hofmann, respectively. He continued his organ studies with Leo van Doeselaar at the Universität der Künste in Berlin, where he earned the prestigious Konzertexamen diploma.
Laurens has won numerous awards, including first prizes at the Silbermann Competition in Freiberg and the Martini Organ Competition in Groningen. He also received the ECHO "Young Organist of the Year" title (2020) and the Sweelinck-Muller Prize (2018). As a chamber musician, he is a founding pianist of the Chimaera Trio, known for its imaginative arrangements spanning four centuries of repertoire. The trio has released three CDs.
Appointed in 2012, Laurens is principal organist of the Janskerk in Utrecht, where he plays the historic Bätz-Witte organ (1861). He was Organist in Residence at the newly built Contius organ in Leuven during the 2022–2023 season. His double CD debut for Globe Records appeared in 2024, featuring Wagner transcriptions and a portrait of the Leuven Contius organ.
In addition to performing, Laurens is dedicated to teaching. He currently teaches at the Utrecht Conservatory and, from September 2025, joins the Conservatorium van Amsterdam as a professor of organ. www.laurensdeman.com
